After some time, the radiator and condenser becomes covered with dirt, oil and oxidized metal. Previously, there was no way to clean it effectively, because the sheet metal is too thin to be cleaned by a high pressured air gun or spout. Using them may cause the sheet metal to collapse or become deformed. If a strong base or acid cleaner is used, the sheet metal may corrode and make the fan or the engine function badly once the wiring is exposed. Also, it is a significant time waster to disassemble the condenser, reassemble it, refill it with Freon and check for leaks. The main purpose of the radiator (condenser) is to help cool the engine. A dirty radiator (condenser) decreases the efficiency of cooling the car and the engine. If a compressor works properly, it should take approximately 5 minutes for the air conditioner to cool down the interior of the car. It may take 10-20 minutes to achieve that result with a dirty condenser thereby increasing the engine’s energy consumption. Also, the compressor will break down more easily when it needs to work under high temperature and pressure for long periods of time. If the air conditioner doesn’t work well, the engine needs to operate harder and longer. Because the radiator isn’t being cooled down properly, additional heat will be generated by the engine.
